Frequently Asked Question

General question about Paragliding Pilatus

What is the process of my paragliding flight?
    1. Meeting point: We meet at the agreed location, either at the valley station or directly at Pilatus.
    2. Equipment: You’ll receive a helmet and harness, and your pilot will explain everything you need to know.
    3. Takeoff: After a short practice run, we take a few steps together—and suddenly, we’re soaring through the air!
    4. Flight: Depending on your flight package, the experience lasts between 15 and 50 minutes. You can relax and enjoy the view or even try steering the paraglider.
Can I fly all year round?

Yes, we offer tandem flights throughout the year! The best conditions are usually in spring, summer and fall but winter flights are also possible—especially if you want to experience breathtaking snow-covered landscapes. The key is to dress appropriately for the weather.

Can I choose whether to fly with a male or female pilot?

If you have a preference, let us know in advance! We will do our best to accommodate your request, though we cannot always guarantee it.

How do I get to the takeoff site?

Is there a discount for Swiss Travel Pass holders?

Yes, the Cable Car is available for half the Price.

What Should I Wear?

It’s best to wear an extra layer, even if you think it might not be necessary. While paragliding, a constant headwind of about 40 km/h can make it feel quite chilly due to the wind chill effect. Long pants or leggings are also recommended to protect your legs from scratches in case you slip at the takeoff site. We provide helmets and gloves. During the summer, winter clothing isn’t needed, but a light jacket can still be useful.

Can I Film or Take Photos During the Flight?

Yes, you can bring your camera or smartphone as long as they are securely attached and stored safely in your jacket during takeoff and landing. Filming and photographing during the flight are permitted as long as it does not pose a safety risk. This decision is at the pilot’s discretion.
Please note, however, that filming or adjusting the camera during takeoff is not allowed. For safety, both hands must be free to ensure a smooth takeoff. Additionally, we’ve found that photos and videos taken by our pilots often turn out better. They use longer selfie sticks, know the best angles, and have taken thousands of shots. This allows you to focus entirely on the experience while your pilot captures the best moments for you.

How Should I Prepare for the Flight?

Eat a light meal before the flight to stabilize your energy levels, but avoid heavy or greasy food. Stay hydrated and bring sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.
If you’re prone to motion sickness, taking anti-nausea medication about an hour before the flight has proven effective. In our experience, approximately 1 in 70 passengers experiences nausea during the flight. With proper preparation, this risk can be minimized, allowing you to fully enjoy your flight.

Can I Bring a Companion?

Yes, companions are welcome! They can watch your takeoff or meet you at the landing site afterward.

What Happens in Bad Weather?
If bad weather prevents your flight, it will be rescheduled to the next suitable date. If you can’t attend a rescheduled date (e.g., due to travel plans), our cancellation policy applies.
Can I Fly If I’m Afraid of Heights?

Yes, many of our guests with a fear of heights report unforgettable experiences. The anticipation before takeoff is often the most nerve-wracking part, but once in the air, flying feels so surreal that the fear usually disappears. In hundreds of flights, we’ve never had a guest continue to feel afraid once airborne.

How Fit Do I Need to Be for Paragliding?
Basic fitness is sufficient. You need to be able to run a few steps downhill at the takeoff site until we’re airborne. If you have any health concerns, let us know, and we’ll assess your situation individually.
How Long Does the Entire Flight Experience Take?

The full experience lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on the flight package and weather conditions. Sometimes, it may be necessary to wait for the right wind conditions before takeoff.

  • Bergdohle: 15–20 minutes
  • Adler: 15–40 minutes
  • Drache: 30–50 minutes
Can I Wear Glasses or Contact Lenses During the Flight?
Yes, you can wear glasses or contact lenses without any issues. However, we recommend using a glasses strap to ensure they don’t slip or fall during the flight. Even if you don’t wear prescription glasses, sunglasses are helpful to shield your eyes from the wind.
Can I bring luggage?
Small backpacks or bags can be stored in the harness. Bigger bags are best left at the valley station or with your non flying companion.
What Happens If I Panic During the Flight?
Our team is specially trained to address nervousness or anxiety. During the flight, you can rely entirely on your experienced pilot. If you feel uncomfortable, the flight duration can be adjusted. However, this is rarely necessary, as most guests begin to enjoy the experience and the views after just a few seconds.
Can I Control the Paraglider During the Flight?
Yes, if you’re interested, you can take control during the flight. Your pilot will show you the basics and remain ready to take over at any moment. It’s a fantastic way to experience paragliding firsthand.
What If I Have Health Restrictions?
Please let us know about any health restrictions beforehand so we can decide together whether a tandem flight is safe and suitable for you.
How Safe Is Paragliding?

Paragliding is comparable in safety to motorcycling when conducted by experienced and qualified pilots. Our pilots have at least 10 years of experience, with many exceeding 20 or 30 years, and are specially trained for Pilatus conditions.

Our equipment, including harnesses, gliders, and reserve parachutes, is inspected and certified annually by independent institutions. The reserve parachute provides an additional safety measure in the unlikely event of an issue.

We only fly in suitable weather conditions and are highly familiar with the terrain and wind patterns at Pilatus. While we aim to minimize risks as much as possible, paragliding, like any adventure sport, involves a residual risk.

Am I Insured During the Tandem Flight?

Yes, all passengers are covered by liability insurance, which covers damages to third parties or their property caused by pilot error. For full details, please review our Terms and Conditions.

What Are the Pilot’s Responsibilities?

The pilot is responsible for providing and inspecting the equipment, assessing weather conditions, and ensuring a safe flight. They will give you a professional briefing, ensure your safety, and explain all procedures for takeoff, flight, and landing.

What Happens If I Fall or Get Injured?

The pilot’s liability insurance covers accidents or damages caused by pilot error. For personal injuries or damages not caused by negligence on the pilot’s part, your personal accident or health insurance will apply.
In Switzerland, paragliding is not considered a high-risk sport, meaning employees are covered by standard accident insurance. This applies to most European countries, but if you’re insured outside of Switzerland, please check your coverage. If you are not insured, additional insurance can be purchased to cover up to CHF 100,000 in damages.

What Happens If I Miss My Flight?

If you miss your flight, our cancellation policy applies. If you’re running late, please contact us as soon as possible so we can find a solution.

Can I Talk or Ask Questions During the Flight?

Yes, you can communicate with your pilot normally during the flight.

How Do I Find the Takeoff and Landing Sites?

When booking, you’ll receive detailed instructions on how to reach the meeting point. The landing site is conveniently located near the valley station in Kriens and is easily accessible. If you’d prefer to meet directly at Pilatus Kulm, this is possible, though the meeting time will be delayed by 30 minutes to allow pilots to reach the summit. Check out our Contact site. There you find detailed instructions
